Creating a New Course

When given the chance to create something new...

untethered...

the rare opportunity to start anew, beholden to no one or nothing...

not limited to any other restrictions or prerequisites...

...what would you do?

It's the opportunity that we all dream about.

And so, when this chance of  a lifetime comes about, what do we do?

Do we take on the great questions, or do we shrink from imagination and pile up a list of things the course must accomplish?

A great, powerful question should drive each course.

If we start with a shopping list of activities and obligations and expectations, we burden the students and the teacher with a wheelbarrow of stuff that cannot be crammed elegantly into a course.

A course is not a set of common experiences.  Why must it be a set of common experiences?

A course is not a grab bag or an opportunity to correct or prepare people.  A course is an opportunity, a journey together.
